Pastor Dave Teaching Kenyan Pastors
with Your Help
Rev. Gordon Hendrickson, of EPA Conference & Acts 6 Ministries, has invited me to teach in the Kenyan (Africa) Pastor’s School, Feb 2014. This 10 year old ministry trains pastors in a region that is considered the land of outcasts by other mainstream populations.
This teaching ministry is partnered with other medical & educational ministries in the area. It has truly been a work of the Holy Spirit building connections, lives & disciple-making ministry. Team members who have made this journey before believe they have learned as much as they have taught. I’m looking forward to that learning!
Rev. Hendrickson has directed alternative Licensing Schools & Course of Study Extension Schools for Local Pastors in our area for the last 18 years. Many would not have been able to answer their call if these schools were not created. Then God connected him to a need in several African countries that has blossomed into a goal to fill the land with disciples of Jesus Christ.
The Kenya story began in Washington DC where Gordon met two pastors who said they needed the same help being provided in Ghana. The goal was to reach rural areas where little or no contact from the West is found. The first class of pastors from this effort, graduated in March of 2012. The Kenya ministry’s goals are: 1) To provide Pastoral Licensing School training for all denominations in Meru and other rural communities—We are in four areas now; 2) To provide for medical needs in these communities; & 3) To provide aid to children/youth to attend school. Here’s a video from the Kenya ministry.
I am expecting to raise $4000 to support my participation as a teacher in this very poor part of the world. Still in the planning stages is a Lenten presentation for all to see. Any gifts would be gratefully received and can be directed to Palmyra First UMC, marked “Kenya 2013.” Your prayers are coveted. I would love to share my excitement and growing knowledge about this honor & adventure. Peace on the journey, as we share Jesus Christ & his Joy!
