Why Travel & Learn?
In college, a professor asked me if I wanted to go to Haiti on a mission trip. I said, "Sure, where's Haiti?" I went and I have never worshipped, served or read my bible the same. I was changed. I will always remember as I looked into the eyes of the people and served beside them. I was transformed experiencing both the poverty and the extraordinary hospitality of those I went to "help." I will always be grateful to the 12 friends I made traveling and to Prof. Wethington who invited me.
Seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and relating to a new place means it comes alive. When we spend days and evenings with new friends we come together. When it's in the Holy Land, we come to God in fresh ways.
As a young adult I distinctly remember my Holy Land "aha" as I saw where Jesus ministered, and simultaneously heard the guide tell Old Testament stories occupying the same geography. In that moment the rich layers of God-alive-in-scripture jumped off the page and came to life.
